First thing you need to do is figure out where you are flying from and to. Remember that if you are willing to fly out of a larger metro, then ticket prices may be cheaper. Driving an extra hour or two could save you hundreds of dollars potentially.
The next thing to consider is travel dates. Being flexible with your dates will give you more flexibility in prices as well. And some seasons, like the holidays, and early in the year, tend to be more expensive than the rest of the year.
Consider more overlays. You pay a premium to get a direct flight, especially if your destination is far away or obscure. But beware, as overlays can add hours to a flight itinerary.
Check with as many airlines as possible. Sure, you have your favorites, but check the online reviews and you’ll probably find that there are others just as decent.
Buying tickets ahead of time does not always mean the lowest prices, but it usually does.
